Alton Towers Galactica Anti-Gravity Photo Shoot

February 22, 2016 - 2 minutes read

Team Sketch got their space on this month!!

We were asked by Mischief PR to produce an anti-gravity style photo shoot to promote Alton Towers new ride Galactica.  The new Alton Towers ride, Galactica is the first rollercoaster  fully dedicated to virtual reality and will offer thrill-seekers a journey into space.  So with in mind we set out to create an anti-gravity street which featured cars, people, and post boxes floating in mid-air in a breath-taking space stunt.

In keeping with the space themed ride, the chosen location was the street British ESA Astronaut Tim Peake grew up on.  This street we temporarily re-named “Gravity Avenue” for artistic purposes.

The out of this world, gravity-defying stunt gave locals from the British astronauts hometown of Westbourne, Sussex a unique insight into how the local legend is living while at the International Space Station (ISS).  Local children from Tim’s old primary school came to watch the interstellar spectacle to get a sense of their alumni spends his time in space.

For the project Sketch designed and built all the props, provided performers, sourced the location & gained all required licenses for the heavy machinery involved in the shoot.  Our team oversaw & supervised the shoot which resulted in a fabulous selection if images to be used for the Galactica visual campaign.

See below video for behind the scenes footage of the shoot

It was an out of this world experience and we loved every minute!  We are now counting the days until the ride opens on 24th March 2016!
