The Poisoned King: Manticore Tour

In a city known for iconic landmarks and unforgettable moments, our latest PR stunt brought something truly mythical to the streets of London. We introduced a towering, intricately-designed Manticore sculpture—a creature of legend with the body of a lion, wings and a venomous tail—and paraded it through the capital’s most recognisable locations.

This campaign captured the imagination of the public, dominated social media feeds, and delivered a surge of attention for our client, making mythology feel more alive than ever.

The Brief

Bloomsbury approached us with a bold challenge: create a high-impact, visually arresting stunt to generate media coverage and social content around the launch of their new book “The Poisoned King”. They wanted bring one of their Impossible Creatures to life – The Manticore – in an otherworldly, and larger-than-life way. Something that stops people in their tracks, spark conversations, and create a wave of curiosity around the book.

In Detail

A 15-foot sculpture of a manticore toured London, to celebrate the release of The Poisoned King – the new book in the globally bestselling Impossible Creatures series by Katherine Rundell, published by Bloomsbury Children’s.

The creature toured Westminster Bridge, The Mall, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and London Bridge, before stopping to rest for the day at Potter’s Field Park with Tower Bridge and Tower of London looming large behind him.

To bring the Manticore to life, we used a combination of lightweight materials, mechanical rigging and careful finishing techniques. Every detail was hand-crafted—from the glint in its feline eyes to the texture and characteristics of the fur, feathers and horns. The design paid homage to the book’s depiction of this impossible creature, and we worked closely with the author and publishers to ensure we recreated their vision accurately.
