With the COVID-19 pandemic leading to a restriction on public activity and leaving us all pretty much stuck inside our homes for the majority of the time, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity for us to share with you some our production experience and knowledge to help you put on events from your own home!

Dial up the excitement and add a bit of flair and extravagance to your daily routine during these times of social distancing…

How To: Homemade Fashion Show

Many of us may have had dreams of being a runway supermodel, strutting your stuff in the finest designer. If not, then we’d at least like to provide you with a good enough excuse to get dressed up again after all this time stuck at home! HEre is the Sketch Events ‘DIY: but make it fashion…” written tutorial.

Here’s a list of the elements that will need to be taken care of to put on your show. Most top fashion shows have huge budgets for the AV technology and castings, but here’s how you can create the same desired effect using everyday household items…

  • Runway – It’s important to incorporate the initial element of surprise into the design of your set. This way, when the models step out in their outfits, the audience get that ‘WOW’ factor experience. We would suggest using a hallway with a doorway leading to an adjacent room as this will enable the model to hide behind the wall before stepping under the lights and onto the runway.
  • Lighting – To create that authentic ‘fashion show’ look, the lighting needs to be on point. To recreate the desired effect in your home, we advise closing all blinds and curtains to allow minimal daylight in. Use whatever lighting you have available in your house to accentuate the runway. Adding a bit of colour always spices up the scene so don’t be afraid to dig out the Christmas lights from the attic!
  • Film & Photography – We definitely recommend having phones out for this show. The more footage, the better. Turning the flash on adds to the high-end, glamorous vibe with bright white flashing lights going off in every direction.
  • Music – When it comes to high-fashion runway music, we’ve got you covered with this carefully curated Spotify playlist
  • Models – For this show, you’re the stars and we want to see you get sassy! Keep your head high, make sure there’s a spring in your step and if all else fails be yourself!

This guy’s got it … maybe?

DIY Festival

As you’re probably aware already, many major summer festivals around the world have been cancelled or rescheduled meaning that many festivalgoers are going to miss the chance to go to their favourite festivals. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t bring the festival to you! Here’s how to festival DIY style…

The chances are, you don’t have a superstar DJ or a ground-breaking musician living under the same roof as you, but that won’t stop you from having a headliner playing all your favourite tunes. Why not get up a YouTube video of your favourite artist playing to a festival crowd on the TV or even projector if you’ve got one! If you can’t think of anyone you’d like to listen to, here’s a selection of Sketch’s favourites below…

Now that the music is on point, it’s vital to organise your bar and get the drinks flowing. No good festival is complete without a bar (at least this one’s got no queues and much lower prices!). We’re no stranger to a premium cocktail after our ‘Meet the Masters’ event with Campari so it’s safe to say we know a thing or two… why not check out the following cocktail recipes for your DIY festival. They’re easy to make and SUPER delicious!

Pina Colada                            Strawberry Daiquiri          Tequila Sunrise                    Mojito

Household Olympic Games

We’re sure you were as gutted as we were to hear that the Olympic games, due to take place in Tokyo this year, have been postponed until 2021. With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to share with you all our ideas on how to recreate you very own version of the Olympic games at home!

If you do have a garden or accessible outdoor space of your own (please do not venture out to any public spaces for this #StayAtHome!) then that is ideal for this concept, however, we’re no secret to putting on sporting events in smaller indoor spaces… check out this pop-up fitness gym we created for Fridge Raiders. Hopefully you draw some inspiration from the ideas we executed here to copy or come up with your own!

One bonus idea we’d like to share with you to use is an Olympic interpretation on a sports day classic …

Egg & Spoon Slalom – whether indoors or outdoors, this is a game you can make work. We would suggest using something other than eggs given current situation as far as the supermarkets are concerned and it would be a shame to waste any eggs unnecessarily. Beauty blenders would work perfectly as a replacement or you could also roll up a ball of blu-tac.

Use a phone to time how long it takes each member of the household to complete the slalom. If there’s not many participants, you can do a best of 3 where the top score of each person’s attempts is taken to help lengthen the fun.

When all is said and done, the overall winner of the Household Olympic Games shall receive a prize far greater than an Olympic gold medal… immunity from all washing up for a week!! Let the games begin…

Brand Yourself

A lot of the work we do with brands is heavily PR focused. We change brand perceptions for the better. We do this by stimulating audiences with unique and memorable content so, when it comes to public perceptions, we’ve got a pretty good idea of how to help portray our clients in the best possible light.

Seeing as you’ve got some spare time on your hands, why not take this lockdown as an opportunity to brand yourself? Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur looking to grow your own business, or you just want to add some ‘wow’ to your social media profiles… try out the following to pimp your personal PR prowess:

Home Studio Shoot – given the new lockdown restrictions you’re going to find it difficult to get to a studio and shoot great pictures in that environment, but there’s a few things you can do at home to elevate your photoshoot.

  • Lighting – It’s important to keep control over lighting, it can make or break a photo. Natural light can look stunning but if you’re after a more digital, studio look, we’d suggest waiting until the natural light is gone and using the light you have available to you within your own home; ceiling lights, lamps, torches, phones. All of these combined can help you tailor your image as you desire.
  • Modelling – For those of you shooting photographs of people who are not used to or confident being models in front of a camera, we’ve got two little tips to get you looking and feeling your best for the shoot: Get members of your household that you trust to hang out and provide moral support. They’ll make you forget the camera is even there! Secondly, stick some of your favourite tunes on and just enjoy yourself. The music will help get you moving and put a smile on your face. You’ll see the difference in the pictures.

Content Creation – One of the things brand and businesses come to use for is content creation. Creating enjoyable and shareable content is not only a super effective method of increasing a brand’s reach and improving the way they are perceived, but it’s also a really fun process for everyone involved. So, why not give it a go yourself?

You could start a YouTube channel and express your creativity through that. Gamers can sign up to twitch and livestream their content to fellow gamers around the world. Perhaps you consider yourself a bit of a fashionista? Why not get involved in the #OOTD (outfit of the day) trend on Instagram. It’s the perfect excuse to get glammed up now that we’re being held indoors!

#OOTD from Home

There are so many avenues to go down when it comes to content creation and almost as many platforms to post your content to so it’s really all about expressing your own creativity however you so desire! The key to successful content campaigns is to make sure the content reflects the brand and their messages and that the content is enjoyable to others. As long as what you’re doing mirrors you or what it is you’re trying to portray and you have fun making it, then you’ve smashed it already!
