Sketch’s Top PR Stunt’s of 2015

We love a good PR stunt here at Sketch, so far 2015 has produced some fabulous PR stunts already and its only March!


We have compiled Sketch’s Top PR Stunts of 2015 to celebrate the genius, quirky and clever campaigns that have taken place in the last 3 months.


Oreo Eclipse

First up is the Oreo Eclipse which capitalised on the Solar Eclipse that took place last week.  Even though it was cloudy and most people didn’t get to experience the actual eclipse, Oreo were successful in making everyone aware of their #OreoEclipse which took centre stage with its black translucent wrap on The Sun newspaper.  The brand supported this with an outdoor campaign where the moon was played by a huge Oreo Cookie.

Sketch had the pleasure of working on The Ladbrokes Barkingham Palace Gold Cup which was designed to help punters determine the name and sex of the Duke and Duchess or Cambridge‘s second Royal Baby ahead of its arrival next month.


The racing event took place at Bloomsbury’s prestigious Bedford Square with each corgi sharing a name with those speculated to be the name of the future Royal Baby.  Front runners Elizabeth (5/1) and James (8/1) made it into the group along with rank outsiders Camilla (100/1) and Boris (200/1).


The campaign exceeded all expectations with the quirky video going viral in a major way.  Our little corgis have made it across the pond and featured on Good Morning America and the You Tube video has had almost 500, 000 views to date.



Marmite & Pot Noodle Easter Eggs

Either love it or hate it, but it is happening!  Unilever have launched the Marmite and Pot Noodle Easter Egg in order broaden the appeal of Easter.  The egg’s will have the taste of Marmite and Noodles giving Easter a new lease of life.  The jury is out on how much love there will be for the actual chocolate but as a PR stunt it worked well with social media and the press giving their launch maximum exposure.


Zoolander 2 Launch At Paris Fashion Week

Blue Steel hit the catwalk once again when Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson strutted their stuff as Derek Zoolander and Hansel at the Maison Valentino  show at Paris Fashion Week.  The PR stunt was devised to officially announce the sequel to the much loved 2001 comedy, Zoolander.


The video shows the fashion crowd loving the surprise and in particular Hansel shrugging his coat off his shoulders in a dramatic fashion.  Instagram pictures from Valentino & showed the pair backstage with Anna Wintour and even she couldn’t keep a straight face!


Snickers – Jeremy Clarkson





Snickers won the title for reactive PR stunt of the year when they sent a free box of Snickers to Jeremy Clarkson following the expletive-laden rant  with his producer after being denied a hot meal.   The confectioner won social media over with this image going viral with the caption ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ which is the tag line featured heavily in the brands advertising.


Samsung Sign Language Stunt




This cute and emotive PR stunt  from Samsung won everyone’s hearts when a whole town learnt sign language so that a deaf Turkish man could ‘live one day without barriers’.   Maharrem is seen going about his normal day with his sister Ozlem.  He finds himself interacting via sign language with a steady flow of people including a passerby, a taxi driver and a grocer, something he does not usually experience.  By the end of the short film he is brought to tears of joy by the actions of everyone in his town.


It took one month in preparation, with all involved taking sign language lessons especially for the campaign.  The stunt’s intention was to bring attention to its video calling centre which enables the hearing impaired to communicate more easily.



So as you can see there have been some brilliant stunts in such a short space of time.  No doubt the rest of the year will be filled with fabulously creative and genius PR stunts and we cant wait to be a part of them!
